The best-kept secret in Texas wine is that its producers produce some of the best wine in America. And now, with the opening of several new wineries and vineyards throughout the state, it's easy to tour the production facilities and sample wines at their source.
While not well known outside of Texas, Texan wine is worth exploring by anyone who likes fine wine and beautiful scenery. The Fredericksburg wine region of the Lone Star State, also known as the Texas Hill Country, has dozens of excellent wineries and vineyards; a great place for tours and tastings.
Here are some of the top wineries you want to explore during your Fredericksburg wine tours:
Becker Vineyards:
Since 1992, Becker Vineyards has been producing award-winning wines in the Texas Hill Country. The 46 acres that make up the winery are filled with vineyards, lavender fields, and a reproduction late 19th-century German stone barn that houses the tasting room.
Pedernales Cellars:
Pedernales Cellars is a family-owned and operated winery located in the Texas Hill Country. We specialize in producing handcrafted wines, including benchmark Tempranillos and Viogniers. We host daily tours of our underground winemaking cellar and provide a beautiful area for visitors to relax on our tree-covered deck with breathtaking views of the Texas Hill Country.
Barrons Creek Vineyards:
Barons Creek Vineyards, one of the newest wineries in Fredericksburg, Texas opened to the public in 2015 and began harvesting grapes for wine production in 2019. The vineyard currently sources most of its grapes from Texas, Washington state, California, and Spain.
William Chris Vineyards:
William Chris Vineyards is located in Hye, a town near Fredericksburg. The winery offers tastings from its cozy tasting room, which overlooks a picturesque landscape. During busy times, a larger space next door opens up to accommodate groups who visit on weekends to taste the best offerings of the winery.
Grape Creek Vineyards:
As soon as you arrive at Grape Creek Vineyards, you’ll notice the limestone belltower and the banner proclaiming, “Tuscany in Texas.” Once inside the Tuscan-style villa overlooking Fredericksburg vineyards, you can sample 14 varietals and blends—or take a further tour of the grounds and production area. On weekends, you might enjoy a glass on the patio with live music—and food from Stout’s Trattoria.
